Rather than admitting mistakes, BJP still blaming Nehru
Why does PM Modi continue to blame Nehru? Dr Manmohan questioned
In a rare and harsh attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government today, Manmohan Singh stated that the BJP has been in power for more than seven years but still blames the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for every problem.
In a video message days before the Punjab election, the former Prime Minister and senior Congress leader said “The post of Prime Minister has a certain dignity."
Manmohan Singh, 89, stated that the Congress never divided the country for political purposes or hid the truth. According to him, the BJP believed in “fake nationalist” policies based on the British policy of divide and rule.
“On the one hand, people are facing inflation and unemployment; on the other hand, the current government, which has been in power for seven and a half years, rather than admitting and rectifying its mistakes, tries to blame the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for people’s problems,” Manmohan Singh said.
“I believe that the Prime Minister’s position has a specific dignity, and that we should not blame past to minimize flaws. I spoke through my work over my ten years as Prime Minister. I never let the country’s image in the eyes of the world degrade. I never challenged India’s pride “he added.
“At the very least, I’m delighted that the BJP and its B and C teams are being exposed in front of the country following baseless claims that I’m weak, silent, and corrupt.”
The two-time Prime Minister also criticised the administration of having a poor foreign policy and of trying to restrict Chinese incursions near the Line of Actual Control.
“They don’t understand economic policy (the BJP-led administration). The problem isn’t only a national problem. In terms of foreign policy, this government has likewise failed. China is sitting at our border and efforts are being made to suppress it (incursions). I hope the PM understands that foreign policy cannot be done by forcibly hugging leaders, swinging on swings, or eating biryani without being invited,” he stated.
“We never divided the country for the sake of party politics. We never tried to keep the truth hidden from people. We never questioned the country’s worth or the Prime Minister’s position. Today’s society is divided. The government’s fake nationalism is both ineffective and dangerous. Their nationalism is based on the divide-and-rule strategy used by the British. Constitutional institutions are in danger of collapsing.”
The government’s economic approach is “selfish and greedy,” according to the former Prime Minister. “They are dividing people and forcing them to fight for their own selfish interests,” he stated.
Manmohan Singh also mentioned the security breach that stopped Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy on a flyover in Punjab for 20 minutes due to protesting farmers.
“A few days ago, an attempt was made to defame Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and the people of the state in the name of the prime minister’s security. Attempts were also made to defame Punjab and Punjabiyat during the farmers’ protest. The world honours Punjabis’ bravery, patriotism, and sacrifice, but the NDA administration has said nothing about it. All of these things greatly wounded me as a pure Punjabi Indian” Manmohan Singh added.
